Snow Emergency Policy Update 02/12/2021
Inclement Weather & Emergency Closing Policy (as of 2/12/21)
WHAT TO DO IF WCPS ARE CLOSED…..
If the Washington County Public Schools are closed to children, then all Head Start classrooms (both in person and distance learning) will be closed to children.
If WCPS calls a “Code V” Day (virtual classes still take place regardless of weather), HSWC will make their own decision about closure. Many of our staff are still reporting to our centers and are unable to work from home. During this time please pay close attention to our announcements on Class Dojo, our website and social media outlets.
WHAT TO DO IF WCPS ARE DELAYED…..
Extended & Full Day Classrooms – Elgin & Noland These classrooms will have a delayed opening if Washington County Public Schools have a 2 hour delay. Elgin will open at 8:00am. Noland will be on a 2 hour delay for any bus service and opening.
Part Day Classes MLK + Shriver & MLK EHS (4 hr. in person sessions)
If the Washington County Public Schools delay for 2 hours, all part-day/shortened in- person classes will be cancelled for the day. Distance learning classes for these centers will also be cancelled as teaching staff may not be able to arrive on time.
Home Based Services
Children served in the home based program will not have visits on days when WCPS or HSWC are closed due to weather. In the case of a 2 hour delay, visits will begin at 9:00am. In the case of an early dismissal, visits will end by 2:00pm.
WHAT TO DO IF WE CLOSE EARLY....
If HSWC closes early due to weather or other emergencies, parents will be contacted by phone, text or through Class Dojo. Early Closings will be posted on the HSWC website.
At the time of closure, all distance learning will also end for the day.
For school closing information, call your child’s center and listen to the recorded message or check the Head Start website or Facebook page.
